Joint inspection of child protection arrangements (JICPA)
Child abuse and child protection issues
National child protection inspections
We carry out joint inspections to assess how local authorities, police and health services in Wales work together to help and protect children. The joint inspection of child protection arrangements (JICPA) is a Welsh only inspection and is similar to the joint targeted area inspections (JTAI) in England.
The JICPA inspection involves several other inspectorates:
- Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW);
- Healthcare Inspectorate Wales (HIW);
- Education and training inspectorate for Wales (Estyn); and
- HMI Probation.
JICPA follows a theme for each inspection. For example, in December 2019 the services in Newport were inspected on how they keep children safe. The theme of this pilot inspection was child exploitation.
