Consultations, Corporate documents —
This consultation is now closed. It asked for your views on HMICFRS’ proposed inspection programme for 2020/21. It was replaced in July 2020 with a revised consultation.
Child protection, Joint inspection —
Between 20 and 24 January 2020, Ofsted, the Care Quality Commission, HMICFRS and HMI Probation undertook a joint inspection of the multi-agency response to children’s mental health in Bexley. This inspection included a ‘deep dive’ focus on the response to children’s mental health needs.
Criminal justice joint inspections, Custody suites —
This inspection into Sussex is one of a series on police custody inspections carried out jointly by HMI Prisons and HMICFRS. The programme looks at strategy, treatment and conditions, individual rights and health care. It also contributes to the UK’s response to its international obligation to ensure regular and independent inspection of all places of detention.
In 2019, the Mayor’s Office of Greater Manchester Combined Authority commissioned HMICFRS to review issues arising from the implementation of its Integrated Operational Policing System.
Criminal justice joint inspections, Joint inspection, Offender management —
This inspection aimed to examine how Integrated Offender Management has been operating since the implementation of the government’s ‘Transforming Rehabilitation’ programme and in a climate of reduced police numbers.
Child protection, Thematic inspection, Vulnerability —
In early 2014, we began a national programme of child protection inspections. We examine the effectiveness of the decisions made by the police at each stage of their interactions with or for children, from initial contact through to the investigation of offences against them. We also scrutinise the treatment of children in custody, and assess how forces are structured, led and governed, in relation to their child protection services.
Child protection, Research and evaluation —
In 2014, HMICFRS started a rolling programme of inspections in every police force in England and Wales, looking at their response to child protection. To better understand the impact of these inspections on policing activity, we commissioned NatCen to carry out independent evaluation of the programme.
Crime recording —
In November 2015, HMICFRS announced that it would inspect forces’ crime-recording practices in a rolling programme of every force in England and Wales. This rolling programme will be completed over a period of several years and will report on the progress made by forces since the 2014 crime data integrity inspection. This report sets out the findings of a re-inspection of Lincolnshire.
Custody suites —
This report describes the findings following an inspection of Bedfordshire Police custody facilities. The inspection was conducted jointly by HM Inspectorate of Prisons and HM Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services in October 2019, as part of their programme of inspections covering every police custody suite in England and Wales.
Effectiveness, Efficiency, Legitimacy, PEEL —
Like previous PEEL spotlight reports, this report gives an overview of the themes from the 2018/19 PEEL (police effectiveness, efficiency and legitimacy) inspections. With the publication of the final 14 force reports from our third tranche of inspections, this report reflects on findings from all 43 force inspections to draw together national themes in policing.
