We made our second revisit to Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service (FRS) virtually between 22 and 26 February 2021. This letter gives an update on our findings about progress against Gloucestershire FRS’s action plan.

In August 2020, we were commissioned by the Home Secretary to inspect how fire and rescue services in England are responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.  This letter from HMI Wendy Williams to Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service sets out our assessment of the effectiveness of the service’s response to the pandemic.

In 2019, HMICFRS commissioned BMG Research to undertake a study of the public’s perceptions of local fire and rescue services across England. The study covers the public’s views and experiences of local fire and rescue services’ activities.

This inspection assesses how effectively and efficiently Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service prevents, protects the public against and responds to fires and other emergencies. We also assess how well it looks after the people who work for the service.

Effectiveness, Fire & rescue services, Revisit  — 

During our inspection of Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service, in June 2019, we identified a cause of concern about how effective the service is at keeping people safe and secure from fire and other risks. We asked the service to submit an action plan setting out how it would address this cause of concern. We revisited Gloucestershire between 20 and 22 November 2019 to review progress against the action plan.
