Fire and Rescue Service inspections 2021/22 – Round 2, Tranche 2

Summary

This is our second full assessment of fire and rescue services in England. Our focus is on the service they provide to the public, and the way they use the resources available.

We have reported on 15 services in this tranche. Each inspection assesses how effective and efficient the service is, how it protects the public against fires and other emergencies and how it responds to the same. We also assess how well each service looks after the people who work there.

In carrying out our inspections of all 44 fire and rescue services in England, we answer three main questions:

  1. How effective is the fire and rescue service at keeping people safe and secure from fire and other risks?
  2. How efficient is the fire and rescue service at keeping people safe and secure from fire and other risks?
  3. How well does the fire and rescue service look after its people?

This report gives an overview of the main findings from our second tranche of inspections of 15 fire and rescue services in England.

It is the second of three tranches, which make up our second full round of inspections. It is published alongside individual reports for those services, which contain more detail.

It builds on our findings from the first tranche of 13 service inspections, which we reported on in December 2021 and January 2022.
