Between 8 and 12 July 2019, Ofsted, the Care Quality Commission, HMI Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services and HMI Probation carried out a joint inspection of the multi-agency response to children experiencing or at risk of exploitation, including sexual and criminal exploitation, in Halton.

Between 17 and 21 June 2019, Ofsted, the Care Quality Commission, HMI Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services and HMI Probation carried out a joint inspection of the multi-agency response to children experiencing or at risk of sexual exploitation and those experiencing or at risk of criminal exploitation in Northumberland.
Criminal justice joint inspections, Custody suites —
Individuals arrested for terrorism offences are detained at one of five Terrorism Act custody suites situated across the country. These detainees can be held in custody for up to 14 days, significantly longer than detainees held in mainstream custody. Because of this, there are different arrangements under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 for the detention, treatment and questioning of detainees.
Crime recording —
In 2018, Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS) conducted a crime data integrity inspection of Thames Valley Police. HMICFRS published the report of this inspection in February 2018 and concluded that the crime-recording arrangements in the force were not acceptable. The 2018 report made a series of recommendations and areas for improvement aimed at improving crime-recording in Thames Valley. This re-inspection assessed the progress made since that report.

In November 2015, HMICFRS announced that it would inspect forces’ crime-recording practices in a rolling programme of every force in England and Wales. This rolling programme will be completed over a period of several years and will report on the progress made by forces since the 2014 crime data integrity inspection. This report sets out the findings of an inspection of Gloucestershire Constabulary.

Child protection —
Protecting children is one of the most important tasks the police undertake. Only the police can investigate suspected crimes, arrest perpetrators and monitor sex offenders. Police officers have the power to take a child who is in danger into a place of safety, or to seek an order to restrict an offender’s contact with children. This inspection reviewed the progress made in Northamptonshire Police since the publication of the previous national child protection inspection in 2018.
