In June 2014, the East Midlands PCCs asked HMIC to inspect the effectiveness and efficiency of the single counter-terrorism grant arrangement at the East Midlands Special Operations Unit. Police custody in South Yorkshire had improved, and was positive overall, but the force needed to focus on improving risk assessments, said Nick Hardwick, Chief Inspector of Prisons, and Dru Sharpling, HM Inspector of Constabulary. Today they published the report of an unannounced inspection.

This report is one of a series on police custody inspections carried out jointly by HMIC and HMI Prisons. The inspections look at strategy, treatment and conditions, individual rights and health care.
