The inspection assesses how effectively and efficiently Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service protects the public against and responds to fires and other emergencies. We also assess how well it looks after the people who work for the service.

This is Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Fire & Rescue Services’ report to the Secretary of State under section 28B of the Fire and Rescue Services Act 2004. It contains his assessment of the sector in England, based on the inspections we carried out during 2021.

During our inspection of Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service (FRS) and Isle of Wight FRS in 2018, before the services combined in April 2021, we identified as a cause of concern that they didn’t do enough to be an inclusive employer.
