This report sets out an overview of the five joint inspections of child sexual exploitation and missing children were published from February to August 2016.

Data, PEEL methodology  — 

In 2015, HMIC commissioned Ipsos MORI to undertake a survey of public perceptions of policing in England and Wales. This report sets out the results of this survey.

Child protection, Joint inspection  — 

Between 16 May and 20 May 2016, Ofsted, the Care Quality Commission, HMI Constabulary and HMI Probation undertook a joint inspection of the multi-agency response to abuse and neglect in the London Borough of Croydon. This inspection included a ‘deep dive’ focus on the response to child sexual exploitation and those missing from home, care or education.

Joint Emergency Services Interoperability Principles  — 

In January 2015, the Joint Emergency Services Interoperability Principles (JESIP) Ministerial Board commissioned an HMIC-led tri-service review of JESIP across the ambulance, police, and fire and rescue services. The findings of the review are published in this report.

Criminal justice joint inspections, Custody suites  — 

This report is one of a series on police custody inspections carried out jointly by HMI Prisons and HMIC. The inspections look at strategy, treatment and conditions, individual rights and health care. They also contribute to the United Kingdom’s response to its international obligation to ensure regular and independent inspection of all places of detention.

Child protection  — 

Each year thousands of children go missing from their homes, although the majority of them return home or are found soon after, all children who go missing are potentially at risk of harm, and a significant number, because of their circumstances, will face the risk of sexual, criminal or economic exploitation.

Annual reports  — 

The Police Act 1996 requires Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Constabulary to report each year on his assessment of the efficiency and effectiveness of policing in England and Wales. The assessment covers the full breadth of policing work inspected by HMIC, and an overview of police forces in England and Wales.

Effectiveness, PEEL  — 

As part of its annual inspections into police effectiveness, efficiency and legitimacy (PEEL), HMIC’s effectiveness programme assessed how effective the force is at keeping people safe and reducing crime and anti-social behaviour. This inspection focused on four aspects of policing: preventing crime and anti-social behaviour; investigating crime and managing offenders; protecting vulnerable people and supporting victims; and tackling serious and organised crime.
