During our inspection of Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service, in July 2018, we identified a cause of concern about how effective the service is at keeping people safe and secure from fire and other risks. We asked the service to submit an action plan setting out how it would address this cause of concern. We revisited Cornwall between 8 and 10 October 2018 to review progress against the action plan.

In July 2017, Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services took on responsibility for inspections of England’s fire and rescue services (FRS). To assist these inspections HMICFRS commissioned BMG Research to undertake a study of the general public’s perceptions of their local FRS across England.

This is the second statutory inspection of the Royal Navy Police carried out by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services under Section 4 of the Armed Forces Act 2011. This inspection focused on the effectiveness of the policing performance inspections, carried out by the RNP.

In November 2015, HMICFRS announced that it would inspect forces’ crime-recording practices in a rolling programme of every force in England and Wales. This rolling programme will be completed over a period of several years and will report on the progress made by forces since the 2014 crime data integrity inspection. This report sets out the findings of an inspection of Gwent Police.

Protecting children is one of the most important tasks the police undertake. Only the police can investigate suspected crimes, arrest perpetrators and monitor sex offenders. Police officers have the power to take a child who is in danger into a place of safety, or to seek an order to restrict an offender’s contact with children. This inspection reviewed the progress made in Cleveland Police since the publication of the previous national child protection inspection in 2017.
