The force says...
Lancashire Constabulary serves a diverse range of communities, urban to rural and wealthy to high deprivation. With a resident population of 1.49 million people and visitors to Blackpool in 2018 exceeding 18 million it is a popular tourist destination and a desirable place to study (over 53,000 students attend its universities).
Our communities are some of the most culturally diverse in the UK. There are 14 local authority areas, 6 of which fall into the top 50 most deprived in England. Every inch of Lancashire has an allocation of neighbourhood policing. Our control room handles over 1million calls for service annually, 228,000 of which are 999 emergencies. These calls translate into over 500,000 incidents and 167,436 crimes.
The frontline demand we deal with has changed significantly, with the constabulary improving its capacity and capability to effectively tackle crimes of modern day slavery, child protection, human trafficking, digital investigation and exploitation of vulnerable people, including those online.
The constabulary listens to thousands of calls for service and combines this information with high-quality intelligence and scanning to determine how it resources the policing model to deliver the commissioner’s Police & Crime Plan. This is part of a 5-year forward view.
Through its investment in its dedicated neighbourhood policing function Lancashire Constabulary is committed to prevention. It is focused on reducing vulnerability, enhanced by introducing a trauma informed approach to both policing and together across a range of public services in Lancashire, illustrated by its introduction of a Violence Reduction unit. The force works collaboratively at a regional, national and international level to prevent and pursue threats ranging from counter terrorism to organised crime to human trafficking.
