Slavery and trafficking prevention order (STPO) and slavery and trafficking risk order (STRO)

Two civil orders introduced by the Modern Slavery Act 2015. They are designed so that law enforcement bodies and the courts can respond flexibly to the risks posed by an individual of committing future modern slavery offences. The aim is to protect potential victims from the physical or psychological harm which would result from a slavery or trafficking offence. The orders are intended as a preventative measure to deter unlawful and harmful activity.

They can be applied to those who pose a risk of harm from committing modern slavery offences in future.

STPOs are aimed at those convicted, cautioned, who received a reprimand or final warning for a slavery or human trafficking offence. STROs are aimed at individuals who haven’t been convicted of a slavery or human trafficking offence.
