section 44 Emergency Protection Order (EPO)

An order, granted by a court under section 44 of the Children Act 1989, that gives the applicant the power to remove a child or keep a child in a safe place for a specified duration. It gives the applicant parental responsibility, but this is limited to whatever is needed to protect the child’s welfare.
