Death and serious injury
A death and serious injury matter refers to circumstances where a person has died or sustained a serious injury during or after contact with the police.
But if the circumstances are, or have previously been, the subject of a public complaint or considered a conduct matter, this isn’t classified as a death and serious injury matter.
A serious injury includes:
- a fracture;
- a deep cut;
- a deep laceration;
- an injury that damages an internal organ; or
- an injury that impairs any bodily function.
