Core Code of Ethics

In May 2021, a professional standard for fire and rescue services in England was published in response to our recommendation in the 2019 State of Fire report.

It was developed by the Fire Standards Board in partnership with the National Fire Chiefs Council, the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners and the Local Government Association.

The code sets out five ethical principles:

  • putting communities first;
  • integrity;
  • dignity and respect;
  • leadership; and
  • equality, diversity and inclusion.
