Alternative accommodation

The local authority must provide children who are charged with offences, denied bail, and detained with somewhere suitable to stay. This is known as alternative accommodation. Only in exceptional circumstances (such as during extreme weather) would it not be in the child’s best interests to transfer them to such accommodation. In rare cases – for example, if a child presented a high risk of serious harm to others – the local authority may need to provide the child with secure accommodation instead.
