In May 2016, Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS) conducted a crime data integrity inspection of Merseyside Police. HMICFRS published the report of this inspection in February 2017 and concluded that the crime-recording arrangements in the force were not acceptable. The 2017 report made a series of recommendations and areas for improvement aimed at improving crime-recording in Merseyside. This re-inspection assessed the progress made since that report.
