Annual reports  —

The Police Act 1996 requires Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Constabulary to report each year on his assessment of the efficiency and effectiveness of policing in England and Wales. The assessment covers the full breadth of policing work inspected by HMICFRS, and an overview of police forces in England and Wales. As required by that section, it contains his assessment of the efficiency and effectiveness of policing in England and Wales in respect of the inspection year 2017.

Effectiveness, PEEL  —

As part of our annual inspections of police effectiveness, efficiency and legitimacy, HMICFRS assessed how effective the force is at keeping people safe and reducing crime.

Child protection  —

Protecting children is one of the most important tasks the police undertake. Only the police can investigate suspected crimes, arrest perpetrators and monitor sex offenders. Police officers have the power to take a child who is in danger into a place of safety, or to seek an order to restrict an offender’s contact with children. The police service also has a significant role working with other agencies to ensure the child’s protection and well-being, longer term. This is the report of an inspection of Lancashire Constabulary.

Leadership, PEEL  —

This report pulls together the findings from the PEEL 2017 leadership inspections, and provides a national overview.

PEEL methodology, Research and evaluation  —

This report sets out the results of the third Ipsos MORI survey into public perceptions of policing in England and Wales.

Legitimacy, PEEL  —

As in PEEL legitimacy 2016, this inspection looked at the extent to which forces treat people with fairness and respect; the extent to which they ensure their workforces act ethically and lawfully; and the extent to which those workforces themselves feel they have been treated with fairness and respect by the forces. This report sets out the findings for Lancashire Constabulary.

National Police Air Service  —

HMICFRS commissioned a study into the National Police Air Service following concerns expressed by some forces about the effectiveness and efficiency of current arrangements for police air support. This report sets out the findings of that study.

Crime recording  —

In November 2015, HMICFRS announced that it would inspect forces’ crime-recording practices in a rolling programme of every force in England and Wales. This rolling programme will be completed over a period of several years and will report on the progress made by forces since the 2014 crime data integrity inspection. This report sets out the findings of an inspection of Lancashire Constabulary.
