Lincolnshire - National child protection inspection, assessment of progress

Summary

Protecting children is one of the most important tasks the police undertake. Only the police can investigate suspected crimes, arrest perpetrators and monitor sex offenders. Police officers have the power to take a child who is in danger into a place of safety or to seek an order to restrict an offender’s contact with children. The police service also has a significant role in working with other agencies to ensure the child’s protection and well-being, longer term.

National child protection inspections are part of a rolling programme of inspections of all police forces in England and Wales.

Background

In September 2018 HMICFRS inspected how well Lincolnshire Police was keeping children under the age of 18 safe. We published the findings in February 2019 in this report: Lincolnshire – National Child Protection inspection.

In October 2019, we assessed the force’s progress in a post-inspection review and published our findings in March 2020: Lincolnshire – National child protection post-inspection review.

Improvements had been made, but some work was yet to be done. As a result, in October 2020 we assessed the progress made in Lincolnshire Police since the publication of the post-inspection review. This report sets out our findings.
