Overview

HMICFRS will carry out a thematic inspection of homicide prevention, jointly supported by the National Police Chiefs’ Council, the College of Policing and the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

In our inspection, we will examine:

  1. how effectively forces understand the pattern of homicide in their areas, including the underlying causes and risks; and
  2. how effectively forces contribute to the prevention of homicides, including how they use the homicide prevention framework.

We will be inspecting eight forces:

  • Gloucestershire Constabulary
  • Greater Manchester Police
  • Merseyside Police
  • Metropolitan Police Service
  • South Yorkshire Police
  • Surrey Police
  • West Midlands Police
  • West Yorkshire Police

We aim to report on our findings in 2023.
