Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force

His Majesty’s Inspector of Constabulary (HMI): Lee Freeman is HMI for Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force (RTCIPF)

About the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force

RTCIPF was established in 1799, making it one of the oldest police forces in the world.

The Turks and Caicos Islands are 575 miles southeast of Miami Florida and 30 miles south of the Bahamas.

The islands are a British Overseas Territory. Most people live on Providenciales, followed by Grand Turk and North Caicos.

There are approximately 225 full-time sworn police officers who serve a population of 49,000.

HMICFRS’s role in inspecting this force

HMICFRS independently inspects RTCIPF upon invitation.

We agree the Term of reference with the Commissioner before carrying out the inspection.

RTCIPF is a relatively small force and its capacity and capability have limitations. For this reason, we do not compare it directly with other forces or grade it.

We ask the questions that we believe the public wish to have answered, and publish our findings, conclusions and recommendations. We use our expertise to interpret the evidence and make recommendations for improvement.
