HMIC Stalking and Harassment inspection
Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) and Her Majesty’s Crown Prosecution Service Inspectorate (HMCPSI) are about to commence a joint thematic inspection of how reports involving stalking and harassment are handled by the police and the Crown Prosecution Service.
Initially, HMIC will conduct fieldwork as part of the PEEL Effectiveness Inspection before a more detailed visit to six police forces and CPS areas in early 2017.
HM Inspector of Constabulary Wendy Williams said:
“The stalking and harassment inspection will involve all forces in England and Wales and include looking at how individual cases are handled by the police and the CPS.
“It is vitally important that we gather the views and experiences of victims as part of this inspection to ensure that we can highlight what services work well and which require improvement.”
The results of this inspection are due for publication in summer 2017.
The terms of reference have been agreed by a reference group from a board range of representatives from the police service, Government and the third sector. For more information see the stalking and harassment page.
