We were commissioned to inspect the Police of Service on Northern Ireland in accordance with Section 41(2) of The Police (Northern Ireland) Act 1998.

We were asked specifically to examine the efficiency and effectiveness of the service in relation to crime prevention and deterrence, and managing suspects and offenders.

Our terms of reference were to inspect and report on:

  • How good is the service at preventing and deterring crime and antisocial behaviour, and reducing vulnerability?
  • How good is the service at managing offenders and suspects?

Our inspection took place in November 2024.
