Cambridgeshire Constabulary covers 1,309 square miles, bordering eight counties. It has a diverse population of 894,000 people, anticipated to rise to 960,000 in the next five years.
Cambridgeshire is one of the fastest growing counties, with major infrastructure projects and continued significant growth in new communities, housing and businesses. Since 2011 the county grew by 11.1% compared to 6.3% nationally.
As a consequence, demand on policing has increased: in 2023 the number of emergency 999 calls increased by 14.0%, compared to 2022. Non-emergency calls increased by 21% in 2021-22 and by a further 7% in 2022-2023.
Preventative work through the ‘One More Step’ Strategy has been strengthened despite challenging partnership landscapes.
Officer numbers increased in 2022/23 and are projected to reach 1774 by 31st March 2024, 42 officers above the Government’s ‘Police Uplift’ target. This has enabled Cambridgeshire to maintain high standards and demonstrates that policing in Cambridgeshire continues to be an attractive career choice.
Cambridgeshire Constabulary has a clear mission built on strong operational and organisational priorities, which have incorporated the National Operating Models. The Constabulary’s embedding of values and the innovative, first in UK Policing, ‘Cultural Statement’ demonstrates that sustainable ethical policing standards, legitimacy and fairness are our priority.
Our operating model continues to evolve through the development of a Sustainable Operating Model, laying strong foundations for the future with a focus on front-line wellbeing, inclusion, innovation, generational diversity, culture and operational delivery. Strong links between financial, business and operational planning is evident through the CamSTRA cycle.
Collaboration with Bedfordshire Police and Hertfordshire Constabulary remains steadfast, driving operational effectiveness and efficiencies alongside work to maximise opportunities via the 7 Force Eastern Region Innovation Network (ERIN) and through the delivery of international work via a pioneering Home Office agreement to strengthen global influence and safety.

Cambridgeshire Constabulary covers 1,309 square miles in the east of England, bordering eight other counties. It has a population of around 860,000, anticipated to rise to 960,000 in the next five years, and a diverse set of communities from the cities of Ely, Cambridge and Peterborough through to market towns and rural Fenland and a transient student population.
Cambridgeshire is one of the fastest growing counties, with major infrastructure projects of the county’s road network continuing and significant growth in construction of houses and business.
During COVID, pandemic crime levels decreased however as restrictions lifted, demand increased. 2021/22 saw increases in calls for service relative to 2020/21, notably, 21.3% rise in emergency (999) calls. Non-emergency 101 increased by 2.4%, webchat contacts by 1.7% and recorded crime returned to pre-COVID levels.
The Constabulary has maintained high standards of service and officer numbers increased in 2021/22 to 1,675, set to rise to 1,752 by March 23 through delivery of the ‘Uplift’ programme.
Cambridgeshire Constabulary has a clear mission to protect the vulnerable and focus towards attacking criminality in innovative ways and a new prevention strategy to get ‘up stream’ of future criminality.
The Constabulary’s renowned operating model continues to evolve through launch of the sustainable operating model, laying foundations for the future and weaving everyday workforce focus into wellbeing, innovation, generational diversity and culture, ensuring the force values of Fairness, Integrity, Diligence and Impartiality underpin all activity.
The Collaboration with Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Constabulary remains steadfast, continuing to drive operational effectiveness and efficiencies along with work to maximise opportunities via 7Force collaboration network and international workings via Home Office MOU.
The Constabulary has hosted several Royal visits over the past 12 months, undertaking numerous public order protest deployments, providing mutual aid to other forces whilst maintaining resourcing to keep local communities safe.
