Disproportionality

An imbalance where some people or groups are:

  • affected by certain actions in a way that is substantially different compared to others in a reference group (such as Black people being more likely than White people to be stopped and searched); or
  • over- or under-represented in particular circumstances compared to their representation in a reference group (such as having fewer people from one gender in leadership positions despite the overall make-up of the workforce).
