Appropriate authority

As per Independent Office for Police Conduct statutory guidance, a chief constable can designate responsibility for decision-making related to complaints and conduct matters. The appropriate authority acts on behalf of the force. They are usually a member of a police force of the rank of inspector or above (or police staff equivalent).
