About the service
Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) provides fire & rescue cover to the county of Northumberland. The fire and rescue service area covers 1,942 square miles with an approximate split of the population living in urban and rural areas.
The service responds to fires (buildings, vehicles and wildfires), road traffic collisions, chemical and biological radiations, nuclear incidents, flooding, swift water, mud and ice rescue, and major incidents. As part of their response role, they also handle emergency calls and respond to special service requests.
NFRS’s headquarters are in Cramlington.
