Biography

Mark Byers joined the Board of HMICFRS in November 2020 as the most senior civil servant in the inspectorate. He works closely with HMCI Andy Cooke in managing the inspectorate.

Prior to joining HMICFRS, Mark worked in the Northern Ireland Office, and much of his career has been spent in policing and security organisations, leading on HR, learning and capability development, corporate operations, security and contingency planning. He taught on a range of talent programmes at the Police Staff College, Bramshill, and led the College of Policing training college at Ryton-on-Dunsmore between 2007 and 2012.

He is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, and holds an MBA.
